Finalización de la fase ofensiva de ‘Pep’ Guardiola: F.C. Barcelona vs Manchester City

    El presente estudio pretende analizar y comparar, a través de la metodología observacional, las secuencias de finalización de dos equipos dirigidos por el entrenador Pep Guardiola - F.C. Barcelona y Manchester City - en sus dos temporadas más goleadoras en liga hasta el comienzo del estudio (2011/2012 y 2018/2019 respectivamente). Para ello, se identificaron tres niveles de éxito en sus acciones: jugadas que terminan en gol, en tiro o remate, o que lo hacen en envío al área grande. La muestra se compuso de 20 partidos, diez de cada equipo, frente a los rivales más potentes de cada competición. Se llevó a cabo un análisis de datos cuantitativo a través del estadístico Chi-cuadrado de Pearson (χ2) mediante el cual se compararon las acciones que finalizaban en los citados criterios de éxito y los que no. Los resultados indican que el F.C. Barcelona fue capaz de anotar en el 2,6% de sus acciones ofensivas mientras que el Manchester City lo hizo en el 1,8% de sus secuencias. Además, se observaron diferencias significativas en la elaboración, densidad y duración de las jugadas que terminan en envío al área grande, con un estilo de juego más elaborado, denso y duradero para el equipo español. Las conclusiones del estudio sugieren que, aunque ambos equipos presentan similitudes en la frecuencia de éxito en tiros y goles, existen diferencias clave en la complejidad y estructura de sus jugadas ofensivas, mostrando las tendencias de ambos equipos en su forma de atacar la portería rival.

    This study aims to analyze and compare, through observational methodology, the completion sequences of two teams managed by coach Pep Guardiola - F.C. Barcelona and Manchester City - during their two highest-scoring league seasons until the start of the study (2011/2012 and 2018/2019 respectively). To achieve this, three levels of success in their actions were identified: plays ending in a goal, a shot, or a pass into the penalty area. The sample consisted of 20 matches, ten from each team, against the strongest opponents in each competition. A quantitative data analysis was conducted using Pearson's Chi-square statistic (χ2) to compare the actions that ended in the success criteria and those that did not. The results indicate that F.C. Barcelona was able to score in 2.6% of their offensive actions, while Manchester City did so in 1.8% of their sequences. Additionally, significant differences were observed in the elaboration, density, and duration of plays that ended with a pass into the penalty area, with a more elaborate, dense, and longer-lasting style of play for the Spanish team. The study's conclusions suggest that, although both teams exhibit similarities in the frequency of success in shots and goals, there are key differences in the complexity and structure of their offensive plays, reflecting the tendencies of both teams in their approach to attacking the opponent's goal.
