This article proposes an analysis of the novel Não falei, published by Beatriz Bracher in 2004, as an elaboration of a traumatic memory about the period of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship. The protagonist and narrator recalls the experience of being arrested and tortured during the dictatorship and deals with the guilt of having caused the arrest and death of his brother-in-law, even thought he claims that he didn't betrayed him. If on the one hand it is a kind of testimony of an individual, on the other it refers to a collective historical experience. The paper establishes relationships between the novel and other works that deal with the theme and uses as reference studies of Márcio Seligmann-Silva on testimony and trauma to discuss the book.
