This paper has the goal of investigating how the concepts of real time and imaginary time of modern Physics are represented in One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez. We used A Brief History of Time and The Universe in a Nutshell, by Stephen Hawking, to define the concepts of real and imaginary time, then we investigated how these concepts are represented on the novel, where the linear chronology of Macondo dwells side by side with the full of repetitions history of the Buendía family. The paper was written by means of bibliographical research. The conclusion is that time in One Hundred Years of Solitude has a dual nature, where real time delimitates a history with beginning and end very well-defined, whereas imaginary time represents a cyclical notion of time.
