    This article enterprises a discussion on the center of the dramatic action of the autobiographical novel by Teresa Albuês O Berro do Cordeiro em Nova York (The scream of the Lamb in New York). Analytically, the elements of the narrative will be checked, discerning aesthetic properties, to demonstrate the role of guilt as a leitmotif. The dialectic of guilt will live with the memory of the pain until the release of spiritual strength and breadth of international fellowship. In this process, the metonymic character absorbs the pain of the Brazilian nation, if on the one hand, refuses to condone injustice, prejudices and contradictions of the native soil, inserted in the center of your ownpersonal reality and, on the other hand, absorbs the guilt of such refusal by the battles they face, but he stands, crosses boundaries, displaying, so we can infer, a fact adverse to the prospect of international capitalism, that insists on ignoring the phenomenon.

    Este artigo empreende uma reflexão no núcleo de ação dramática do romance autobiográfico de Teresa Albuês O Berro do Cordeiro em Nova York. Analiticamente, averiguar-se-ão os elementos da narrativa, discernindo propriedades estéticas, para demonstrar o papel da culpa como leitmotiv. A dialética da culpa conviverá com a memória da dor até a libertação por força espiritual e comunhão de amplitude internacional. Neste processo, a personagem metonímica absorve em si a dor da nação brasileira: se, por um lado se recusa a compactuar com injustiças, preconceitos e contradições do solo natal, inseridas no âmago de sua realidade pessoal; por outro, absorve a culpa de tal recusa pelas batalhas que enfrenta, mas resiste, atravessa fronteiras, exibindo, podemos inferir assim, uma verdade adversa à perspectiva do capitalismo internacional que insiste em ignorar o fenômeno.
