Exposição solar: conhecimento e hábitos de alunos de Agronomia

    Introduction:It is necessary to discuss the inherent risks of photo-exposure to a work team of agricultural engineers while they are still attending college, so that they are able to guide and encourage the practice of protective measures. Objective: This work sought to verify the knowledge and habits of the academics of Agronomy on the risks of sun exposure. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out through a self-administered questionnaire. The aim of the questions was to characterize the study population, to verify the knowledge about the risks of excessive sun exposure and photo-protection, to evaluate photo-protection habits, and to get to know whether or not students were guided regarding the subject while attending college. Results: Most students demonstrated that they are aware of the harmful effects of sun exposure on health and know that farmers constitute a risk group for skin cancer. 96.2% reported they did not receive information about photo-education while attending college. Although students know how to protect themselves, only slightly more than half of them take photo-protection measures, like barrier methods (55.5%) or sunscreen (51.3%). Conclusion: Students demonstrated to know the risks of excessive sun exposure and how to protect themselves. However, the photo protection habit has been shown to be deficient and the subject to be rarely developed while students were still attending college. The implementation of an active methodology to approach the subject may have repercussion in their posture as a professional as well as in their habits.

    Introdução: Durante a formação dos engenheiros agrônomos é necessário discutir os riscos inerentes à fotoexposição da equipe de trabalho para que possam orientar e incentivar a prática de medidas de proteção. Objetivo: Verificar o conhecimento e hábitos de acadêmicos de agronomia sobre os riscos à exposição solar. Métodos: Estudo descritivo, transversal, com aplicação de questionário. As perguntas se relacionaram à caracterização dos participantes, conhecimentos sobre riscos da exposição solar e fotoproteção, hábitos de fotoproteção e recebimento de orientações a respeito da temática durante a graduação. Resultados: A maior parte dos estudantes demonstrou conhecer a ação prejudicial da exposição solar à saúde e que agricultores constituem um grupo de risco à neoplasia de pele. Afirmaram ainda (96.2%) não receber informações sobre fotoeducação durante a graduação. Apesar de os alunos saberem como se proteger dos raios ultravioleta, pouco mais da metade usa medidas de fotoproteção, como métodos de barreira (55,5%) ou protetor solar (51,3%). Conclusão: Os alunos demonstram conhecer os riscos inerentes à exposição solar, assim como se proteger dos raios ultravioletas. Porém, o hábito de fotoproteção demonstrou ser deficitário e a temática pouco trabalhada na graduação. A implementação de metodologia ativa para a abordagem do tema pode ter repercussão na postura como profissionais, assim como em seus hábitos.
