    This article analyzes the role of dentists in preventing and protecting women's health in cases of domestic and family violence. Methodologically, the work adopts the bibliographic research technique based on two aspects: the first, on the complexity surrounding female victimization by domestic and family violence; the second, addresses the role of dentists in the process of prevention, confrontation and coordination of the care network. Finally, it is understood that the work of this professional constitutes an important instrument not only to provide reparative care, but also to ensure the fundamental rights of the victim, including information, health protection, referral to other agencies in the care network for the purpose of receiving protective measures, inclusion in social policies or programs and to guarantee their physical, psychological, patrimonial, moral and sexual protection. Thus, the work contributes not only to clarifying the responsibility of dentists in providing care and promoting health policies for women, but also establishes guidelines for their contribution to actions to prevent and confront this form of violence.

    Este artigo analisa o papel do odontólogo para prevenção e proteção da saúde da mulher diante de casos de violência doméstica e familiar. Metodologicamente, o trabalho adota a técnica de pesquisa bibliográfica pautada em dois vieres: o primeiro, sobre a complexidade que circunda a vitimização feminina por violência doméstica e familiar; o segundo, trata o papel do odontólogo para o processo de prevenção, enfrentamento e articulação da rede de atendimento. Por fim, compreende-se que a atuação deste profissional constitui um importante instrumento para, não apenas realizar o atendimento reparativo, mas também assegurar os direitos fundamentais da vítima, inclusive à informação, à proteção da saúde, realizar encaminhamento aos demais órgãos da rede de enfrentamento para fins de recepção de medidas protetivas, inserção em políticas ou programas sociais e para garantia de sua proteção física, psicológica, patrimonial, moral e sexual. Deste modo, o trabalho contribui não só com o esclarecimento sobre a responsabilidade do odontólogo para o atendimento e a promoção de políticas de saúde para mulher, mas estabelece nortes para sua contribuição nas ações de prevenções e enfrentamento a essa forma de violência.
