El presente artículo analiza el estudio que Stefan Zweig realiza de una época determinada, el final de la República y el inicio del Principiado, a través de la figura histórica de Cicerón, quien contempla, a raíz del asesinato de Julio César, cómo las instituciones republicanas van a perder toda su vigencia para dar paso al poder omnímodo de Octavio Augusto.

This article analyses Stefan Zweig’s study of a particular period, the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Principate, through the historical figure of Cicero, who contemplates, following the assassination of Julius Caesar, how the republican institutions will lose all their validity to give way to the absolute power of Octavius Augustus.
