    En un entorno global de reconfiguración geopolítica, las potencias emplean poderosas fuerzas para lograr cumplir con sus intereses, de una manera más o menos patente, de una manera más o menos soterrada. En la era actual, en una nueva era realista, el interés de las naciones y potencias constituye el factor clave de las relaciones internacionales.

    En ese complejo entorno, Rusia intenta, una vez más, evitar lo que siente como un cerco a su territorio, e intenta crear una especie de «destacamento avanzado» en el Sahel, desde el cual pretende, además de obtener otra serie de ventajas, amenazar y contribuir a quebrar el anillo terrestre que circunvala su país, el denominado secularmente «Rimland».

    Y, en el marco de esa reconfiguración geopolítica quizás nada sea por azar, y los eventos y acontecimientos —Ucrania, Sahel, Siria, Libia…—, por remotos e inconexos que puedan parecer, se suceden como en una partida de cartas, donde apuestas y jugadas, con una lógica aparente —o no— responden al propósito de cada jugador de maximizar su beneficio, más allá de otras cuestiones.

    Una reflexión final al respecto cierra el presente documento.

    In a global environment of geopolitical reconfiguration, powers employ powerful forces to achieve their interests, more or less overtly, more or less covertly. In the current era, in a new realist era, the interests of nations and powers are the key factor in international relations.

    In this complex environment, Russia is once again trying to avoid what it feels is an encirclement of its territory, and is attempting to create a kind of ‘forward detachment’ in the Sahel, from which it intends, in addition to gaining other advantages, to threaten and help break up the ring of land that encircles its country, the centuries-old ‘Rimland’.

    And, in the framework of this geopolitical reconfiguration, perhaps nothing is random, and events and developments - Ukraine, Sahel, Syria, Libya…- however remote and unconnected they may seem, follow one another as in a card game, where bets and moves, with an apparent logic - or not - respond to the purpose of each player to maximise his or her benefit, beyond other issues.
