Juventudes, salud mental y suicidio: comentarios de estudiantes de comunicación social sobre notas periodísticas que reportan eventos suicidas

    Iniciamos el artículo problematizando la situación de la salud mental en el contexto posterior a la pandemia por Covid-19 y el aumento en el número de suicidios en Yucatán y el papel que juega la prensa en estos sucesos. Bajo el objetivo de explorar la recepción que hacen estudiantes de educación superior sobre los contenidos de notas periodísticas locales que reportan suicidio, (M) se diseñó una estrategia cualitativa bajo la técnica de grupo de discusión que permitió (R) identificar que los jóvenes se percatan que las noticias sobre suicidio en los diarios de mayor circulación en Yucatán, se redactan de manera sensacionalista con gran indiferencia hacia la víctima y sus familiares. Estas notas generan sorpresa, alarma, tristeza, desesperanza, ansiedad, angustia. También desatan procesos de empatía e identificación (C) Los medios más importantes de Yucatán no prestan suficiente atención a su compromiso ético y humano para con las personas motivo de sus notas, dejando abierta la puerta para que su actuación redunde en un mayor número de suicidios.

    We begin the article by problematizing the situation of mental health in the context after the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in the number of suicides in Yucatán and the role that the press plays in these events. Under the objective of exploring the reception that higher education students make of the contents of local journalistic articles that report suicide, a qualitative strategy was designed using the discussion group technique that allowed to identify that young people realize that the news about suicide in the newspapers with the largest circulation in Yucatán are written in a sensationalist manner with great indifference towards the victim and his family. These notes generate surprise, alarm, sadness, hopelessness, anxiety, anguish. They also unleash processes of empathy and identification. The most important media in Yucatán do not pay enough attention to their ethical and human commitment to the people who are the subject of their articles, leaving the door open for their actions to result in a greater number of suicides.
