Resumen de Impacto de la industria, el turismo y el comercio exterior sobre desarrollo económico y el empleo: Análisis de la economía española y europea en el período (1990-2007)

  Analizamos el impacto que el desarrollo industrial, el turismo y el comercio exterior tienen, junto a otros factores, sobre la evolución del empleo, los salarios, la productividad del trabajo y el Producto Interior Bruto por habitante en España, y en varios países de Europa Occidental y de Europa Central, en el período 1990-2007. Estimamos un modelo econométrico que explica tanto el impacto de estas variables sobre el desarrollo económico como el efecto positivo de algunos factores relevantes sobre la industria, el turismo y las exportaciones. Por último centramos nuestras sugerencias en la necesidad de impulsar políticas españolas y europeas que contribuyan a impulsar el desarrollo industrial y a incrementar las exportaciones de bienes y servicios, con el objeto de evitar las repercusiones negativas que el déficit exterior tiene sobre el desarrollo económico y el empleo.

  We analyze the impact of industry and foreign trade, together with other factors, on the evolution of employment, real wages, labor productivity and real Gross Domestic Product per capita in Spain, in comparison with several European Countries, for the period 1990-2007. We estimate an econometric model which explains the evolution of those variables having into account the positive effects of industry and exports of goods and services, including tourism, on economic development. Our conclusions and suggestions are addressed to foster economic policies in Spain and the European Union addressed to reach higher levels of human capital (education and research) and industrial development per inhabitant in order to converge with the United States and other advanced economies. In the case of Spain we insist upon the restriction that the deficit of the trade balance has on economic development and to foster policies addressed to increase the trade capacity of Spain to the levels of other more advanced EU countries.
