Resumen de The municipalities and the quality of life: An innovation rank approach

  El presente artículo trata de la cuestión de la medición del bien-estar ó de la calidad de vida de los diferentes municipios de un país. Con el pretendemos construir una sola medida ó indicador que nos ayude a ordenar eses municipios en términos de bien-estar y de su calidad de vida teniendo en la debida cuenta por veces centenares ó miles de diferentes variables algunas mas cualitativas - como los bienes culturales de difícil medición -, otras mas cuantitativas y mas fáciles de tratar - como la renta ó el consumo privado. En termines metodológicos el artículo usa técnicas de la estadística multivariada como el análisis factorial y outras mas sencillas y presenta un innovador y original método para calcular el indicador de calidad de vida. Al fin del artículo se espera un método fácil de comprender y de interpretar y se discute la aplicación del método à la realidad municipal de Portugal.

  The present article focuses the question of measuring the well-being or the quality of life of the different municipalities of a country. With it we pretend to built a sole measure or indicator that helps us to rank these municipalities in terms of well-being and of their quality of life taking in account sometimes hundreds of different variables some more qualitative like cultural goods, difficult to measure, others more quantitative and easier to treat like the GDP or the private consumption. In methodological terms the article, departing from the simplest techniques – descriptive statistics - to other more elaborated like the multivariate analysis – especially factorial analysis -, presents an innovative and original method to compute the quality of life indicator. At the end of our article we expected a simple, easily understandable and interpretable method that we intend to apply to the Portuguese 278 municipalities.
