Incremento anual de pacientes atendidos en la consulta externa de un laboratorio clínico.

    Introducción: El servicio que brinda el laboratorio clínico es esencial dentro de los servicios de salud y su cantidad de trabajo crece por el envejecimiento de la población y el aumento de pacientes con enfermedades crónicas.

    Objetivo: Determinar el incremento anual de pacientes de consulta externa del Laboratorio Clínico del Hospital Rafael Hernández (HRH) de septiembre 2020 a diciembre 2022.

    Metodología: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo con diseño no experimental. Se recolectó información de los pacientes de consulta externa del laboratorio del HRH y se determinaron las pruebas más realizadas y la cantidad de pacientes mensuales.

    Resultados: El promedio de pacientes mensuales por consulta externa varió entre 1099 y 3120. La mayoría de los pacientes eran mujeres (61.71 %) con una edad promedio de 52.32, el rango de edad con más pacientes fue de 51-60 años. La mayoría de los pacientes (65.82 %) provenía del distrito de David. Las secciones de química general y hematología fueron las que procesaron más pruebas en ese periodo de tiempo.

    Conclusión: Hay una demanda creciente del servicio de laboratorio clínico del HRH. Se observa una variación mensual y un notable aumento en la afluencia de pacientes tras el periodo de pandemia. La mayoría de los pacientes fueron mujeres adultas y las pruebas de laboratorio más solicitadas en este periodo se procesaron en las secciones de química general y hematología.

    Introduction: The service provided by the clinical laboratory is essential within the health services and its amount of work grows due to the ageing of the population and the increase of patients with chronic diseases.  Objective: To determine the annual increase in outpatients at the clinical laboratory of HRH from  September 2020 to December 2022.

    Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted with a non-experimental design. Information was collected from patients of the outpatient department of the laboratory at HRH, and the most performed tests and the monthly number of patientswere determined.

    Results: The average number of patients seen monthly in the outpatient department varied between 1099 and 3120 patients. Most of the patients were female (61.71 %) with an average age of 52.32 years, and the largest proportion of the patients were within the 51-60 age range. Most patients were from the David district, representing (65.82 %) of the total sample. The general chemistry and hematology sections were the ones that processed the highest amount of tests during that period of time.

    Conclusion: There is a growing demand for the clinical laboratory service at HRH. Monthly variations and a significant increase in patient influx are observed after the pandemic period. Most of the patients were adult women, and the most requested laboratory tests during this period were processed in the general chemistry and hematology sections
