Resumen de Entre el vacío y la memoria. La arquitectura frente al patrimonio industrial

Desde mediados del siglo pasado, el implacable proceso de desindustrialización ha ido dejando tras de sí un escenario de paisajes asolados, edificios vacíos, extraños artefactos metálicos, y kilómetros de redes ferroviarias y otras infraestructuras abandonadas. La aproximación a estos restos difíciles ha sido, y es, muy compleja, y a menudo la solución más sencilla ha sido el derribo. Tampoco desde los campos de la arquitectura y el urbanismo este acercamiento se ha hecho siempre con la atención y el respeto que merece esa parte de la historia.
Mediante la revisión de publicaciones, jornadas y congresos, el articulo tratará de exponer cuál ha sido en líneas generales esta aproximación desde los años ‘70, teniendo como telón de fondo la evolución de la valoración de estos restos desde el punto de vista patrimonial y el nacimiento de las primeras asociaciones en su defensa. Esta lectura paralela, casi cronológica, permitirá poner en cuestión algunas actuaciones a la luz de un contexto más amplio y, desde la posición actual, valorar si existe un cambio en la aproximación desde la arquitectura hacia esta realidad.

Since the middle of the last century, the relentless process of deindustrialisation has left behind a scene of blighted landscapes, empty buildings, strange metallic artefacts, and miles of railway networks and other abandoned infrastructures. The approach to these difficult remains has been, and is, very complex, and often the simplest solution has been demolition. Nor from the fields of architecture and urban planning has this approach always been made with the attention and respect that this part of history deserves.
Through a review of publications, conferences and congresses, the article will try to explain the general lines of this approach since the 1970s, against the backdrop of the evolution of the valuation of these remains from the heritage point of view and the birth of the first associations in their defence. This parallel, almost chronological reading will allow us to question certain actions in the light of a broader context and, from the current position, to assess whether there has been a change in the approach of architecture to this reality.
