    El artículo analiza la obra del chileno Joaquín Díaz Garcés —alcalde, político, periodista y cuentista del siglo XX—, enfocándose en su representación de tipos humanos y su vínculo con los territorios. A través de una narrativa influida por el naturalismo, Díaz Garcés construye arquetipos sociales del Chile urbano y rural de la época, reflejando prácticas, migraciones y tensiones territoriales. Su mirada, anclada en el centralismo, articula una visión político-cultural que define sujetos sociales y sus formas de asentamiento. Desde la élite periodística, proyecta una geografía de la otredad, exaltando al dueño de fundo y marginando al afuerino. Su obra no solo retrata, sino que moldea relaciones de poder al asociar identidad y territorio, articulando un discurso de dominación simbólica en medio de la modernización y la crisis del latifundio.

    The article analyzes the work of the Chilean Joaquín Díaz Garcés — mayor, politician, journalist and 20th-century storyteller — focusing on his representation of human types and their link to the land. Through a narrative influenced by naturalism, Díaz Garcés constructs social archetypes of urban and rural Chile at the time, reflecting practices, migrations and territorial tensions. His gaze, anchored in centralism, articulates a political-cultural vision that defines social subjects and their forms of settlement. From the journalistic elite, he projects a geography of otherness, exalting the landowner and marginalizing the outsider. His work not only portrays but also shapes power relations by associating identity and territory, articulating a discourse of symbolic domination in the midst of modernization and the crisis of the latifundia.
