    La existencia de relación entre la longitud de los dientes y la estatura permitiría determinar la talla de un sujeto a partir del hallazgo de su calavera, lo que reviste indiscutible interés forense. Para estudiar esta posible relación, hemos realizado un estudio piloto con las longitudes dentarias de los dientes incisivos, medidas sobre las ortopantomografías de 341 historias clínicas (205 de mujeres y 136 de hombres; de edades entre 15 y 77 años), extraídas aleatoriamente del protocolo de primeras visitas de la Escuela de Estomatología de Oviedo, y estudiado su correlación con la estatura. Estas variables se muestran recíprocamente correladas, pero al ser muy bajos coeficientes de determinación, se concluye que los cálculos de la estatura en función de la longitud de cada incisivo son demasiado imprecisos para, a través de ecuaciones de regresión, confiarles utilidad biométrica en la identificación forense.

    The presence of correlation between the length of the teeth and height would allow to determine the height of the subject from the finding of his/her skull. This has an undoubted importance of forensic nature. We have carried out a pilot study on the length of the incisor teeth measured on the panoramic radiographies of 341 clinical histories (205 women, 136 men; from 15 to 77 years of age), ramdomly obtained from the archives of the School of Stomatology of Oviedo University, in order to know its correlation with the height of the subjects. The results show that these variables are self-correlated, but as the determination coefficients are very low, we must conclude that to calculate the height of the subjects on the basis of the length of each incisor is too inacurate to, thruohout a regression equation, consider it of biometric utility for forensic identification.
