    Partiendo de los enunciados, tan consoladores como falsos, de nuestro tiempo el autor se adentra en una descripción de las necesidades y los recursos puestos en juego para alimentar el progreso humano en el momento actual. Se trata de un repaso exhaustivo y holístico de la cantidad de trabajo y energía puestos en marcha en el comercio mundial: desde las materias que circulan por el planeta en containers y grandes buques, al agua como gran recurso del futuro ambicionado por todos los gobiernos. Todo el sistema sigue sustentado en tres palabras: producción, suministro y consumo. Esta visión, que incluye el Talón de Aquiles de una descarbonización imposible con los medios actuales, ofrece por otra parte notables oportunidades para los arquitectos en cuanto plantea la transformación del planeta y sus infraestructuras: no hay Arte sin trabajo, ni sin conexiones profundas con los medios de producción, con la materia y la vida de una época. El autor termina acudiendo a su propia trayectoria personal releyendo cómo aquellos primeros trabajos y su consideración en clave cultural le valió un merecido espaldarazo internacional.

    Starting from the statements, as comforting as they are false, of our times, the author delves into a description of the needs and resources put into play to feed human progress at the present time. It is an exhaustive and holistic review of the amount of work and energy put into world trade: from the materials that circulate around the planet in containers and large ships, to water as the great resource of the future coveted by all governments. The whole system is still based on three words: production, supply and consumption. This vision, which includes the Achilles Heel of a decarbonization impossible with the current means, offers on the other hand remarkable opportunities for architects as it raises the transformation of the planet and its infrastructures: there is no Art without work, nor without deep connections with the means of production, with the matter and the life of an era. The author ends by turning to his own personal trajectory, re-reading how those early works and their consideration in a cultural key earned him a well-deserved international acclaim.
