Resumen de Las ciudades en la España Moderna: crecimiento económico, crisis y reconstrucción, 1500-1800

Este trabajo tiene por objeto, por una parte, exponer la evolución de las ciudades de la España Moderna tal como puede apreciarse a través de las cifras de población que se derivan de los censos y vecindarios disponibles desde principios del siglo XVI hasta el censo de Floridablanca. Por otra parte, se mide el auge del siglo XVI, el declive del XVII y la recuperación del XVIII desde una perspectiva regional, al tiempo que se proponen varios factores que permiten explicar esta singular trayectoria, que finaliza con un aumento de la tasa de urbanización y un sistema urbano muy diferente, aunque de perfil sin duda más integrado. En dicho comportamiento fueron decisivos los cambios que estaban experimentando la economía española y el comercio exterior, así como el intervencionismo económico del Estado.

This work aims, on the one hand, to expose the evolution of the cities of Modern Spain as can be seen through the population figures derived from the censuses and neighborhoods available from the beginning of the sixteenth century until the census of Floridablanca. On the other hand, the rise of the sixteenth century, the decline of the seventeenth century and the recovery of the eighteenth century are measured from a regional perspective, while several factors are proposed to explain this unique trajectory, which ends with an increase in the rate of urbanization and a very different urban system, although undoubtedly with a more integrated profile. The changes that the Spanish economy and foreign trade were experiencing were decisive in this behavior, as well as the economic interventionism of the State.
