    La pesca recreativa és una pràctica tradicional molt arrelada a Menorca que, antigament, estava més orientada a l'autoabastiment i, alhora, servia per complementar l'economia de la llar. Aquesta pràctica, d'acord amb la normativa vigent, ha de tenir una finalitat recreativa i no pot tenir objectius comercials ni es poden utilitzar utensilis o arts professionals. La informació disponible és escassa i l’únic estudi integral de pesca recreativa a Menorca es va fer ja fa dues dècades (Cardona et al., 2002). Des de llavors la pesca recreativa ha patit canvis tecnològics, han aparegut noves modalitats i a més s’han triplicat el nombre de llicències. L’ús d’enquestes com a vector de recollida de dades, s’ha donat continuïtat a l'estudi de Cardona et al. (2002) i s’ha establert un seguiment sobre la pesca recreativa a Menorca, determinant l'evolució d'aquesta activitat en els darrers 20 anys. No s'ha detectat un augment significatiu del nombre de pescadors, però si en l'esforç pesquer. Aquest fet, juntament amb una diversificació de les modalitats i de les captures, evidencien uns canvis molt importants que s'hauran de tenir en compte a l'hora de gestionar aquesta activitat, en primer lloc, a les reserves marines, i a tot el litoral de Menorca.

    Recreational fishing is a traditional practice deeply rooted on the island of Menorca which, in the past, was more oriented towards self-sufficiency and, at the same time, served as a supplement to the household economy. This practice, in accordance with current regulations, must have a purely recreational purpose and cannot have commercial objectives nor can professional utensils or arts be used. Information regarding this practice is scarce and the only comprehensive study of recreational fishing in Menorca was done two decades ago (Cardona et.al., 2002). Since then, recreational fishing has undergone technological changes, the use of new methods and the number of licenses has also tripled. The use of surveys as a data collection vector, has been given continuity to the study by Cardona et al. (2002) and a monitoring program has been established on recreational fishing in Menorca, determining the evolution of this activity in the last 20 years. Although we have not found a significant increase in the number of fishermen, the fishing effort has increased. This fact, along with a diversification of methods and catches, suggest very significant changes that will have to be considered when managing this activity, firstly, in marine reserves, and lastly all along the coast of Menorca
