    Cerca de Valencia de Alcántara, la villa más importante de la orden alcantarina en la actual provincia de Cáceres, nos encontramos con las Encomiendas de Mayorga y Piedrabuena con sus respectivos castillos. Estos, uno de carácter defensivo y otro más residencial, vieron como su importancia estratégica va a decaer a lo largo de los siglos. Ya a finales del siglo XVIII, su existencia será casi más de despoblados o en vías de serlo, aunque su productividad seguía manteniéndose. El objetivo de nuestro trabajo es el de analizar la situación en la que se encontraba estas dos encomiendas, desde el punto de vista económico, a finales del Antiguo Régimen.

    Near Valencia de Alcántara, the most important town of the Alcantarine order in the province of Cáceres, we find the Encomiendas of Mayorga and Piedrabuena with their respective castles. These, one of a defensive nature and another more residential, saw their strategic importance decline over the centuries. At the end of the 18th century, its existence was almost depopulated or in the process of becoming so, although its productivity continued to be maintained. The objective of our work is to analyze the situation in which these two encomiendas found themselves, from an economic point of view, at the end of the Old Regime.
