    Com a importante função de abrigar os restos mortais de alguém, os sarcófagos romanos continham, em suas faces externas, espaços convidativos à ornamentação.  Na cultura romana dos séculos II a IV d.C., essas superfícies visíveis receberam esculturas em relevo com diversas temáticas, dentre as quais se destacou o tema da vindima e processamento das uvas para a produção vinícola. Tendo como objeto de partida o sarcófago de Constantina, um luxuoso exemplar produzido no início do século V, temos como objetivo compreender os motivos da grande circulação desse tema iconográfico em contexto funerário, que se inicia com os sarcófagos dionisíacos na região da Ática, no século II, e se estende até o século V em Roma.

    Two buildings, remnants of the first campaigns of Christian architecture in Rome, survive on the banks of the Via Nomentana, an ancient Roman road that still bears the same name, about three kilometers north of the Aurelian Wall: the Basilica of Sant'Agnese, a Constantinian cemetery basilica that was dedicated to Saint Agnes, and the mausoleum of Saint Constance, in which Constantina, daughter of Emperor Constantine, was buried, which is considered one of the best preserved architectural examples of Roman Late Antiquity. In this work, we will discuss the construction date of the mausoleum, its possible patrons and, mainly, the relationship between its construction and the growing cult of Saint Agnes of Rome at the beginning of the 5th century.
