    Title XXI of the Second Part of Siete Partidas by Alfonso X can be seen as a standalone treatise on chivalry, addressing the organization and behavior of knights. This title does not reflect 13th-century Castilian society but seeks to shape it, emphasizing ethical values and behavioral norms. Within the broader context of his vast legislative work, Alfonso X aimed to standardize and renew the laws in the territories he inherited from his father. The Second Part is a doctrinal work dealing with universal values, and Title XXI details the role and characteristics of knights, describing everything from the criteria for selecting candidates to the investiture ritual and the chivalric duties. In addition to attempting to regulate the nobility, Title XXI acknowledges the growing exclusivity of knighthood while also reflecting Alfonso X’s effort to include non-noble segments, such as the "cavalaria vilã" (commoner knights), under his direct vassalage. This both met military needs and expanded the monarch's social base of support.

Esse título não reflete a sociedade castelhana do século XIII, mas tenta moldá-la, com ênfase em valores éticos e normas de comportamento. Alfonso X, no contexto de sua vasta obra legislativa, buscava uniformizar e renovar a legislação nos territórios que herdou de seu pai. A Segunda Partida é uma obra doutrinal que trata de valores universais, e o Título XXI detalha o papel e as características dos cavaleiros, descrevendo desde os critérios para a escolha dos candidatos, até o ritual de investidura e as obrigações cavaleirescas. Além de buscar normatizar a nobreza, o Título XXI reconhece a crescente exclusividade da cavalaria, mas também reflete o esforço de Alfonso X em incluir segmentos não-nobres, como a cavalaria vilã, sob sua vassalagem direta. Isso atendia às necessidades militares e ao mesmo tempo ampliava a base social de apoio ao monarca.
