    The Coming Wave: AI, Power, and the Twenty-first Century’s Greatest Dilemma (2023), publicado en español por editorial Debate bajo el título de La ola que viene, examina el impacto transformador de la inteligencia artificial (IA) y la biología sintética (SB) en la sociedad y la economía. Su autor principal, cofundador de DeepMind, introduce el concepto de “contención” como un marco crucial para gestionar el avance tecnológico, argumentando que si bien el progreso tecnológico no puede ni debe detenerse, debe contenerse de manera efectiva a través de mecanismos técnicos, culturales, legales y políticos interconectados. Esta revisión concluye enfatizando la importancia de la cooperación internacional para evitar que la tecnología supere la capacidad de la sociedad para gestionar sus impactos.

    The Coming Wave: AI, Power, and the Twenty-first Century’s Greatest Dilemma (2023) examines the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and synthetic biology (SB) on society and the economy. Its main author, co-founder of DeepMind, introduces the concept of “containment” as a crucial framework for managing technological advancement, arguing that while technological progress cannot and should not be stopped, it must be effectively contained through interconnected technical, cultural, legal, and political mechanisms. This review concludes by emphasizing the importance of immediate international cooperation to prevent technology from overwhelming society’s ability to manage its impacts.
