    El conflicto que enfrentó a la República Argentina y al Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña por las Islas Malvinas, en 1982, despertó la adhesión de un gran número de personas que abrazaron con fervor una causa —propia o ajena— que había calado muy hondo en sus representaciones e imaginarios.

    El presente trabajo tiene por objeto brindar una dimensión de la adhesión de argentinos y extranjeros, hombres y mujeres, que se ofrecieron como voluntarios durante el Conflicto del Atlántico Sur, en 1982. A partir del análisis de documentos y correspondencia dirigida a las autoridades militares, fue posible reconstruir, por un lado, un panorama cuantitativo y parcialmente cualitativo de los voluntarios y voluntarias que se presentaron para ocupar un lugar en la histórica gesta y, por otro, una primera aproximación hacia sus motivaciones y acciones realizadas.

    Su resultado pone en evidencia la magnitud de lo que representaba la Causa Malvinas, no solo para los argentinos, sino también para un gran número de latinoamericanos que no dudaron en ofrecerse para lo que la Argentina dispusiera al decidir recuperar la soberanía sobre el territorio irredento desde 1833.

    The conflict that confronted the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain over the Malvinas Islands, in 1982, aroused the support of a large number of people, who fervently embraced a cause –their own or someone else's –that had deeply affected their representations and imaginaries.The purpose of the present work is to offer a dimension of the adhesion of Argentines and foreigners, men and women, who volunteered, during the South Atlantic Conflict, in 1982. From the analysis of the documentation and letters addressed to military authorities, it was possible to reconstruct a quantitative and partially qualitative overview of the volunteers who made themselves present to take a place in the historic act and a first approximation of their motivations and actions carried out.Its result exposes the magnitude of what the Malvinas Cause represented not only for Argentines, but also, for a large number of Latin Americans who did not hesitate to offer themselves for whatever Argentina decided, when the definition of recovering sovereignty over the unredeemed territory since 1833 was taken
