    El texto es una aproximación a la historia IESA, un instituto de investigación social que la Fundación Ebert puso en marcha en Madrid en 1980 con la intención de promover estudios que sirvieran al deseo del PSOE de dar una base científica a sus propuestas políticas. La primera parte hace una introducción al trabajo de la Ebert en España durante los años setenta. La segunda analiza el proceso que llevó a la creación de IESA. En los siguientes dos epígrafes se describe el funcionamiento del instituto hasta la llegada del PSOE al poder. La quinta sección narra el proceso de decadencia de IESA. Único think tank del PSOE durante la Transición, IESA constituye una pieza relevante de las relaciones entre la socialdemocracia alemana y el socialismo español. Su anonimato hasta hoy día muestra la potencialidad que el estudio sobre las influencias externas sigue teniendo para la historiografía de la Transición.

    This paper presents an approach to the history of IESA, a social research institute that the Ebert Foundation set up in Madrid in 1980 with the intention of promoting studies that would serve the PSOE's desire to provide a solid, scientific basis for its policies. After a brief review of the Ebert Foundation's activities during the first part of the Transición, the text focuses on the process that led to the creation of IESA. It then describes the functioning of the institute until the PSOE came to power. Lastly, it shows the decline of IESA. As the PSOE's only think tank during the Transición, IESA was a relevant element in the relations between German social democracy and Spanish socialism. Its almost anonimity up to now ilustrates the potential that the influence of the international context still has for the study of the process of democratic transition in Spain.
