"Surto y anclado en el caño del Trocadero". Compraventas de navíos fondeados en el Trocadero y otros caños de Puerto real (Cádiz) a fines del siglo XVII

    Desde al menos mediados del siglo XVII el caño del Trocadero comienza a tener relevancia en el sistema organizativo de la Carrera de Indias, tanto como fondeadero y lugar de reparación y carenado de embarcaciones, como incluso atracadero de salida de flotas y navíos sueltos con destino a Indias. En los protocolos notariales de Puerto Real redactados en las últimas décadas del seiscientos aparecen las cartas de compraventa de algunos de estos navíos que estaban surtos en este canal, tanto españoles como extranjeros, ventas donde intervienen influyentes personajes de la Carrera de Indias: militares, hombres de negocio e incluso ingenieros y constructores navales, oriundos de diversas regiones españolas y europeas (entre ellos vascos, navarros, genoveses, ingleses, holandeses, hamburgueses o franceses). En este trabajo analizamos estas ventas, las características de estos navíos y quiénes los venden y compran, todo lo cual nos permite observar el dinamismo y relevancia que este enclave portuario de Puerto Real ya tenía en el último cuarto del siglo XVII.

    Since at least the middle of the 17th century, the Trocadero channel begins to have relevance in the organizational system of the Carrera de Indias, both as an anchorage and a place for repair and fairing of boats, and even as a departure berth for fleets and ships bound for America. In thenotarial protocols of Puerto Real written in the last decades of the 17th century, the sales of some of these ships that were anchored in this channel appear, both Spanish and foreing, sales where influential figures from the Carrera de Indias intervened: captains, businessmen and even engineers and shipbuilders, natives of varius Spanish and European regions. In this work we analyze these sales, the characteristics of these ships and who sells and buys them, all of which allows us to observe the dynamism and relevance that this port enclave of Puerto Real already had in the last quarter of the 17th century.
