Resumen de Estudio clínico y tratamiento de 18 pacientes con dolor miofascial masticatorio

  Presentamos un estudio de 18 casos con dolor miofascial masticatorio, el 89% fueron mujeres, a todos los pacientes se les había extraído dientes en el lado afecto antes de la aparición del dolor, y cinco casos referían apretamiento de los dientes. No se apreciaron alteraciones de la articulación temporomandibular, ni existieron otros cuadros de dolor orofacial. A la palpación de los músculos masticatorios todos los pacientes referían dolor. Se restauró la oclusión, se realizó fisioterapia y se colocaron férulas oclusales, para equilibrar las fuerzas masticatorias y mejoró el 89% de los pacientes.

  Eighteen cases of masticatory myofascial pain were studied, 89% were women, all of the the patients had had tooth extractions before the presentation of pain in the same pain cuadrant and five cases related to gritting of the teeth. Alterations of the temporomandibular articulation or other orofacial pain were not revealed. In all cases the muscle masticatory palpation were painful. Occlusal, physical, psychological, pharmacologic and splint therapy was recommended; and 89% of the patients improved.
