    Uno de los principales indicadores de producción científica en el ámbito nacional e internacional son las publicaciones, ya que permite socializar en la sociedad los resultados de las investigaciones desarrolladas en las entidades vinculadas al sistema de ciencia, tecnología e innovación (CTeI). Para las Instituciones de Educación Superior es relevante conocer la visibilidad e impacto de los resultados de investigación que se generan la razón de su inversión en actividades de CTeI a través del indicadores métricos permiten analizar cuantitativamente la producción científica,  temas tendencia y líneas de investigación más representativas, cooperación internacional, liderazgo científico, número de citas recibidas; lo que le permitirá realizar una proyección del posicionamiento Regional a través de la articulación con los sectores productivos para la solución a sus necesidades y retos, así como la visibilidad en rankign nacionales e internacionales que evalúan el proceso de investigación. El presente artículo presenta un análisis de la visibilidad e impacto de la producción científica de los docentes de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander en las bases de datos scopus durante el periodo 2002 – 2019, a través de una investigación de tipo cuantitativa cuyo alcance es un estudio de tipo descriptivo, al considerar al fenómeno estudiado y sus componentes, al medir conceptos y definir variables, para el análisis de la producción científica, como una herramienta insumo para la toma de decisiones de las directivas de la Institución y para la definición de estrategias que promuevan el fortalecimiento de los grupos de investigación y la institución.

    One of the main indicators of scientific production at the national and international level is publications, since it allows the results of research carried out in entities linked to the science, technology and innovation system (STI) to be socialized in society. For Higher Education Institutions, it is relevant to know the visibility and impact of the research results generated by the reason for their investment in CTeI's activities through metric indicators that allow for a quantitative analysis of scientific production, the most representative trend themes and lines of research, international cooperation, scientific leadership, and the number of citations received. This will allow for a projection of the Regional positioning through the articulation with the productive sectors for the solution of their needs and challenges, as well as visibility in national and international rankings that evaluate the research process. The present article presents an analysis of the visibility and impact of the scientific production of the teachers of the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander in the scopus databases during the period 2002 - 2019, through a quantitative research whose scope is a descriptive study, considering the studied phenomenon and its components, measuring concepts and defining variables, for the analysis of the scientific production, as an input tool for the decision making of the directives of the Institution and for the definition of strategies that promote the strengthening of the research groups and the institution.
