La locura y el infantilismo de un personaje con discapacidad intelectual en el cine: gestos, posturas y maneras de Noah Percy (El bosque)

    La locura y el infantilismo han sido vinculados históricamente a las discapacidades psíquicas. Aunque hay muchos tipos de condiciones en este grupo y es imposible resumirlas con un estereotipo, lo cierto es que las sociedades han mantenido vivas estas creencias erróneas a lo largo de los siglos. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar, cualitativa y cuantitativamente, todos los gestos, posturas y maneras de un personaje con discapacidad intelectual (Noah Percy; El bosque, 2004), con el fin de verificar si estos signos no verbales contribuyen a clasificarlo como un loco y como un niño. En conjunto, los resultados mues-tran que la quinésica de Noah proporciona hasta 82 rasgos relativos a la locura y 51 relativos al infantilismo. Esto permite comprobar que los antiguos estereotipos aún siguen vivos y presenta una vía para evitarlos en el futuro.

    Madness and childishness have been historically linked to psychic disabilities. Although there are many types of conditions in this group and it is impossible to sum up them in a stereotype, the truth is that societies have kept alive these wrong beliefs over centuries. The aim of this paper is to analyze, qualitatively and quantitatively, all the gestures, postures and manners of an intellectually disabled character (Noah Percy; The Village, 2004) in order to verify if these nonverbal signs contribute to classifying him as a madman and as a child. On the whole, results show that Noah's kinesics offers up to 82 features related to madness and 51 features related to childishness. It allows us to prove that old stereotypes are still alive and presents a way to avoid them in the future.
