    La mucositis es una importante complicación de la radioterapia de cabeza y cuello que tiene un notable impacto en la calidad de vida del paciente, puede condicionar la nutrición y forzar la interrupción de la radioterapia, comprometiendo el pronóstico de la enfermedad neoplásica.

    Este artículo presenta los resultados de un estudio retrospectivo que recoge la experiencia de un año aplicando un protocolo de prevención y tratamiento de mucositis inducida por radioterapia, que incluye colutorios con clorhexidina, bencidamina y sucralfato. Aparecen diferencias significativas en las semanas 3" y 5" de tratamiento a favor de los pacientes que siguieron el protocolo.

    Mucositis is an importan! complication of neck and head radiotherapy, with a great impact on quality of patient's life. It can conditioned nutrition and interrupt radiotherapy compromising the pronostic of neoplasic illness.

    In this work it's been presentes the resuits of a retrospectiva study wich pick up the experience of a year aplicating a protocol of prevention and treatment of mucositis induced by radiotherapy wich include chlorhexidine, benzydamine and sucralfate mouthwashes.

    There were significativa differences in the third and fifth week of the treatment in favour of patients wich continue with the protocol.
