  • With the objective of showing the variety of fossil assemblages, in seven tables all the known animal and plant fossils from the lowerhalf of the Santa María Group (San José, Las Arcas and Chiquimil Formations) are presented, as well as the involved literature. Four main areas, in different valleys are defined and shown in a map while correlations are presented in a table; a short review of the mainly fresh- to brackish paleoenvironments is given. Many of the names, specially plants andpalynomorphs are provisional as further studies are currently carried out.
