Argentina
A summary of the fossil wood descriptions from the Argentine Mesopotamia is made. Petrified woods from the Paraná, Ituzaingó, Salto Chico, and El Palmar forma-tions are analysed. Seven families are recognized: Lauraceae, Myrtaceae, Combretaceae, Anacardiaceae, Leguminosae (Mimosoideae and Papilionoideae), Arecaceae and Poaceae. The comparison of fossil with extant taxa, allowed to recognize paleoecological requirements and composition of three paleocommunities: the higrophyle forest, the wood forest and the palms paleocommunities are represented in the lignoflora fossil record of this region.
