Cambios ecosistémicos y condiciones de vida en Colombia: aproximación empírica

    Se estudian relaciones entre variables biofísicas, en especial cobertura de vegetación, y variables socioeconómicas, demográficas y de violencia, correlacionados mediante estadística no paramétrica. Se encuentran correlaciones significativas que evidencian múltiples interacciones entre ecosistemas y sociedad. Con base en ellas, se someten a prueba hipótesis al respecto. Se evidencia que las condiciones de vida parecen más favorables en condiciones intermedias de transformación de los ecosistemas; esta se debe menos a la pobreza que a condiciones económicas más favorables.La violencia también se relaciona más con estas que con aquella, aunque al mismo tiempo se evidencie que lugares poco transformados son violentos. Se propone que a medida que se transforman los ecosistemas los recursos escasean y la población se empobrece; con ello aumenta la presión sobre recursos escasos, el deterioro ambiental y las migraciones, estimuladas en muchos casos por la violencia. En conjunto, se muestra la importancia de incorporar, de manera más profunda, las variables ecológicas y ambientales en el estudio y seguimiento de las condiciones generales del país.

    We study the relationship among biophysical variables, focusing on land cover and, socioeconomic, demographic and violence variables. The method to do so is Identifying significant correlations that show multiple interactions between ecosystems and society. Using these correlations several related hypotheses are tested. What is seen is that life conditions seem more favored in intermediate conditions of transformation of ecosystems; this is less due to poverty than to better economic conditions. Violence relates itself more whit the first than with the latter although evidence shows that little transformed places are violent. What is proposed here is that as the ecosystems are transformed the resources get scarce and people get poorer; with this the pressure over these few resources, the environmental damage and the migrations increases, sometimes stimulated by violence too. In sum, here we show the importance of incorporation, in a deeper way, of the ecological and environmental variables to the study and following of the general conditions of the nation.
