The introduction of the science fi ction genre in children’s and young adultGalician literature was infl uenced by complex factors in which an essentialist model promoted by the hegemonic cultural currents intersected with the confi guration of a new legalframework. At the beginning of the 1980s, the emergence of a potential audience linked toformal education resulted in a strong correlation between Galician literature and educationalinstitutions. This circumstance produced a series of specifi c characteristics which had animpact not only on the success this genre did (or did not) achieve in narratives for adults, but also on the complexity of creating a model without a consistent publishing practicein the Galician context. The paper analyses the literary works that played the leading role in thatperiod—from the mid-1980s to 1992—by tracing their connections with the technological perspective, the idea of community and the proposed cultural model.
