    Neste traballo faise unha presentación do proxecto de realización dun DicionarioHistórico e Etimolóxico da Lingua Galega, unha necesidade posta de manifesto xa polo PadreSarmiento, pero que non foi posible cumprir fundamentalmente polas difi cultades queentraña unha obra deste tipo, tanto de recursos humanos coma de recursos técnicos. Hoxeparece que estas difi cultades están parcialmente superadas: cóntase con lingüistas preparados para realizalo e con fontes sufi cientes e accesibles que facilitarán o traballo. Analízanseos principais corpus textuais que están dispoñibles para esta obra, e algunhas difi cultadesque presentan debido á súa diferente estrutura e criterios de realización. Tamén se mencionan outros recursos que serán de utilidade para a redacción da obra.

    This paper presents the project for the creation of the historical and etymological dictionary of the Galician language (Dicionario Histórico e Etimolóxico da Lingua Galega).The need for such a dictionary was already expressed by Martín Sarmiento, but it has notbeen possible to fulfi l it chiefl y because of the diffi culties involved in this type of work andthe lack of both human and technical resources. It seems that these limitations have nowbeen partially overcome: there are linguists with suffi cient training to prepare the dictionary,and textual sources from all periods in the history of the language are available. The paperanalyses the main textual corpora at the disposal of the researchers and discusses some ofthe problems with retrieving information due to the diff erent structure of those works and the adoption of diff erent criteria. It also mentions other resources that will be useful to thosecreating the dictionary.
