Cuando la villa de Montánchez pertenecía a la diócesis de Badajoz, un joven, natural de ella, Antonio Senso Lázaro (1868-1941), llegó al Seminario Conciliar San Atón para recibir formación, porque había percibido la llamada a la vocación del sacerdocio. Tras su ordenación, fue canónigo, muy joven, de la catedral de Badajoz, aprobando después una canonjía en la catedral de San Isidro de Madrid. Se licenció en Teología por el Seminario San Ildefonso de Toledo y en Derecho canónico y civil en la Universidad Central. Designado Rector del Seminario matritense, impulsó las obras del nuevo edificio, dejando en él un recuerdo imborrable.
En julio de 1913 fue preconizado obispo de la Diócesis de Astorga. Consagrado en septiembre, llegó a la catedral de Astorga a finales de diciembre. El obispo Senso tomó por lema “Perfice gressus meos in semitis tuis” (Perfecciona mis pasos en tus caminos). Su pontificado abarcó veintiocho años de trabajo pastoral. En su misión, se fijó enseñar, santificar y regir. Priorizó sus afanes en el Seminario, la formación del clero, los colegios, la enseñanza, Acción Católica y las situaciones sociales con predilección por los necesitados. Fue un incansable visitador por ásperos caminos que lo llevó a las parroquias de los arciprestazgos de la diócesis asturicense. Falleció en 1941, en Astorga, su primera y única diócesis, a la que amó con entrañable cariño y con el postrer suspiro de su alma

When the town of Montánchez belonged to the diocese of Badajoz, a young man, a native of it, Antonio Senso Lázaro (1868-1941), arrived at the San Atón Conciliar Seminary to receive training, because he had perceived the call to the vocation of the priesthood. . After his ordination, he was canon, very young, of the Badajoz cathedral, later approving a canonry in the San Isidro cathedral in Madrid. He graduated in Theology from the San Ildefonso de Toledo Seminary and in Canon and Civil Law from the Central University. Appointed Rector of the Seminary in Matanzas, he promoted the works of the new building, leaving an indelible memory in it.
In July 1913 he was proclaimed Bishop of the Diocese of Astorga. Consecrated in September, it arrived at the cathedral of Astorga at the end of December. Bishop Senso took as his motto “Perfice gressus meos in semitis tuis” (Perfect my steps in your ways). His pontificate spanned twenty-eight years of pastoral work. In his mission, he set himself to teach, sanctify and govern. He prioritized his efforts in the Seminary, the formation of the clergy, schools, teaching, Catholic Action and social situations with a predilection for the needy. He was a tireless visitor along rough roads that took him to the parishes of the archpriesthoods of the Asturian diocese. He died in 1941, in Astorga, his first and only diocese, which he loved with deep affection and with the last breath of his soul.
