    This research analyzed the theories and characteristics of international empirical research on knowledge management. Methodologically, the Knowledge Development Process - Construtivist (Proknow-C) was adopted. The most relevant authors, articles and journals, networks of keywords, authors and citations were identified, as well as institutions, countries and collaboration networks. 39 theories and 8 knowledge management processes were highlighted. The studies linked, mainly: knowledge sharing with social capital theory, planned behavior theory and social exchange theory; knowledge management with knowledge-based theory and institutional theory; and knowledge hiding with conservation of resources theory and social exchange theory.

    Este estudo analisa as teorias e as características de pesquisas empíricas internacionais sobre gestão do conhecimento. Metodologicamente, adota-se o “Knowledge Development Process – Construtivist (Proknow-C)”. Identificam-se os autores, artigos e periódicos mais relevantes, as redes de palavras-chave, de autores e de citações, bem como instituições, países e redes de colaboração. Evidenciam-se 39 teorias e 8 processos de gestão do conhecimento relacionados. Os estudos vinculam, principalmente: compartilhamento do conhecimento com “social capital theory”, “planned behavior theory” e “social exchange theory”; gestão do conhecimento com “knowledge-based theory” e “institutional theory”; e ocultação do conhecimento com “conservation of resources theory” e “social exchange theory”.
