    El presente trabajo intenta aclarar el proceso que condujo a la creación de la Bailía General del Reino de Valencia, partiendo de la red de bailías locales que Jaime I fue formando a medida que avanzaba la conquista del territorio. La necesidad de organizar la administración del patrimonio real de la forma más eficaz posible obligó al rey a establecer un superior jerárquico de los bailes locales. Esta figura fue, primero, el baile real en el reinado de Pedro el Grande y, tras un proceso de reflexión al final del reinado de Alfonso el Liberal, el baile general, que Jaime II instituyó nada más acceder al trono.

    This work seeks to clarify the process that led to the creation of the General Bailiwick of the Kingdom of Valencia, starting from the network of local bailiwicks that Jaime I established as he advanced with the conquest of the territory. The need to organise the administration of royal domains as efficiently as possible compelled the king to establish a superior authority over the local bailiffs. This role was originally filled by the royal bailiff during the reign of Pedro the Great. However, following a period of consideration at the end of the reign of Alfonso the Liberal, the position of General Bailiff was eventually created by Jaime II upon his accession to the throne.
