In this paper we present a review of the Roman coinage in which these animals take part of the monetary designs. The study of the typology of the republican and the imperial series, dated from the 1st century BC to the 3rd century AD, has allowed us to observe that camelids had an use in the Roman world during that period, in both real and symbolic terms. This same perspective is supported by the review of ancient written sources, where references to the Camelus Bactrianus and the Camelus Dromedarius are verified, but also the hybridisation of the two can be found. It can be concluded that the numismatic testimonies constitute a significant visual documentation that complements, and supports the information provided by the texts of the Roman authors and the archaeological materials.
