    El período barroco fue sin lugar a duda uno de los momentos más prolíficos y brillantes del arte gallego, especialmente en los campos de escultura y arquitectura tanto civil como religiosa. En Galicia, en lo referente a la arquitectura civil, uno de los mejores ejemplos será el Pazo de Sistallo, situado en el concello de Cospeito, pero desafortunadamente un gran desconocido para la mayoría de estudiosos y entendidos del tema. Y es un craso error dejar que una obra de esta envergadura sea ignorada, siendo su autor un arquitecto tan importante para el barroco gallego como lo es Clemente Sarela. El Pazo de Sistallo es posiblemente la obra más importante de arquitectura civil en toda la provincia de Lugo en el siglo XVIII y una de las más importantes de Galicia. El propósito de este trabajo será, por tanto, salvar al Pazo del abandono y demostrar su relevancia, tanto artística como histórica, para Cospeito, Lugo y Galicia en general, además de contar su historia y las circunstancias que rodearon su construcción, los orígenes de la familia Verdes-Montenegro, señores de las tierras de Sistallo y los artífices de que se construyese tal y como es.

    The Baroque period was undoubtedly one of the most prolific and brilliant moments in Galician art, especially in the fields of both civil and religious sculpture and architecture. In Galicia, in terms of civil architecture, one of the best examples is the Pazo de Sistallo, located in the municipality of Cospeito, but unfortunately largely unknown to most scholars and experts on the subject. And it is a big mistake to allow a work of this magnitude to be ignored, its author being such an important architect fot the Galician Baroque as Clemente Sarela is. The Pazo de Sistallo is possibly de most important work of civil architecture in the entire province of Lugo in the 18th century and one of the most important in Galicia. The purpose of this work will be, therefore, to bring attention to the Pazo and emphasize its relevance, both artistic and historical, and the circumstances surrounding its construction, the origins of the Verdes-Montenegro family, lords of the lands of Sistallo and the architects of being built as it is.
