    El estudio de idiomas extranjeros aumenta en todas las naciones, y no sólo por motivos turísticos o utllitarios, sino también culturales. En los seminarios -españoles se domina el latín y el castellano, pero casi no se tocan otras lenguas, al menos no se aprende a dominarlas. Defecto más frecuente entre nosotros es la pronunciación, que en parte se debe a que el castellano es pobre de fonemas. Hay que implantar el estudio dirigido, y para hacer algo básico, introducir un breve curso de fonética general, que ayudaría a relacionar los sonidos de las distintas lenguas. Un tema descuidado es el de la filosofía del lenguaje, a pesar de sus derivaciones filosóficas y teológicas. Y también está abandonada la filología, a pesar de su gran importancia para conocer el sentido exacto de los textos sobre todo antiguos. El sacerdote es el ministro de la palabra, lo cual le obliga a mucho.

    The study of foreign languages is increasing in every country, not only for touristic and utilitariam motives, but also for cultural ones. Latin and Spanish dominate in the Spanish seminaries and hardly any other languages are broacked, at least with the intention of dominating them. The most frequent defect among us is pronunciation which in part is due to the fac that Spanish is poor in sounds. Supervised study must be introduced and, for doing somheting basic, sounds ofdifferent languages. One disregarded theme is the philosophy of language in spite of its philosophical and theological derivations. And Philology is ignored despite its great importance in determing the exact sense of texts, especially theancient ones. The priest is the minister of the word, therefore much is expected of him.
