    La disfunción cráneo-mandibular es un padecimiento que presenta en la actualidad unos indices de prevalencia y morbilidad muy altos. Aunque ya era conocido en el siglo pasado, Costen, en 1.934, marca un hito al individualizar el síndrome que lleva su nombre. Desde entonces ha originado una abundantísima bibliografía y un incesante aporte de conocimientos con el fin de averiguar e interpretar la causa última que lo origina. En la presente publicación se exponen aquellas factores y teorías etiopatogénicas propuestos por investigadores especialmente capacitados y que han tenido particular incidencia en el enfoque terapéutico.

    The craniomandibular dysfunction is a disease that present nowadays very high index of prevalence and morbility. Although it was already known int hen past century, Costen, in 1934, makes this syndrom individual and takes his name. Since then, it has caused an abundant bibliography and ita has been a constant contribution of knowledge in order to investigate and to interpret the last factor that causes this syndrom. In the present publication are shown factors and etiologic theories proposed by qualified investigators that have had particular incidency in the therapeutic focus.
