    This paper aims to make explicit the complicated relationship between unity and pluralism in Carl Schmitt's political thought. Such discussion will be made from the texts The Concept of the Political (Der Begriff des Politischen) and Staatsethik und pluralistischer Staat. If, on one hand, Schmitt is confronted with the pluralistic reality of contemporary societies and with the danger of the displacement of the political outside the dimension of the State, on the other hand, the jurist insists in the search for a substantial unity that transcends the mere agreement among the different associations and groups that compose society.

     Este artigo tem como objetivo explicitar a complexa relação entre unidade e pluralismo no pensamento político de Carl Schmitt. Tal discussão será feita a partir dos textos O Conceito do Político (Der Begriff des Politischen) e Staatsethik und pluralistischer Staat. Se por um lado, Schmitt confronta-se com a realidade pluralista das sociedades contemporâneas e com o perigo do deslocamento do político para fora da dimensão do Estado, por outro lado, o jurista insiste na procura por uma unidade substancial que transcenda o mero acordo entre as diferentes associações e grupos que compõem a sociedade.
