    El objetivo principal de este artículo consiste en elaborar el estado de la cuestión acerca de uno de los prohombres del Partido Liberal más importantes de la Restauración: Miguel Villanueva y Gómez (1852-1931). A lo largo del siglo XX y XXI su figura ha sido poco estudiada por la historiografía, y, realmente, en la actualidad, no disponemos de ninguna biografía en la que Villanueva, presidente del Congreso y ministro en el reinado de Alfonso XIII varias veces, sea el protagonista o el sujeto histórico vertebrador del discurso. En vista del análisis efectuado, concluimos que la mayoría de las obras que lo mencionan o citan adolecen de recurrentes fallos en el ámbito espacial, cronológico y conceptual. Además, no lo han significado como lo que realmente fue: uno de los testigos de primera fila en los procesos clave del reinado de Alfonso XIII. Villanueva así ejerció en la pérdida de Cuba, en la cuestión de Marruecos, en la oposición interna al régimen de Primo de Rivera o en la Dictablanda, al ser miembro destacado y líder del Partido Constitucionalista.

    The main objective of this article is to elaborate the state of the art of one of the most important figures of the Liberal Party of the Restoration: Miguel Villanueva y Gómez (1852-1931). Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries his figure has been little studied by historiography, and, actually, at present, we do not have any biography in which Villanueva, president of the Congress and minister in the reign of Alfonso XIII several times, is the protagonist. In view of the analysis carried out, we conclude that most of the works that mention or quote him suffer from recurrent failures in the spatial, chronological and conceptual spheres. In addition, they have not described him as what he really was: one of the first-hand witnesses in the key processes of the reign of Alfonso XIII. Villanueva was a key player in the loss of Cuba, in the Moroccan question, in the internal opposition to Primo de Rivera’s regime or in the Dictablanda, as he was a prominent member and leader of the Constitutionalist Party
