    El proceso de mitificación que la Batalla de Bailén había sufrido durante gran parte del siglo XIX parecía haber concluido sus apariciones a nivel nacional hacia final de la centuria. La Guerra de Cuba y la intervención estadounidense, sin embargo, volverán a resucitar el mito, que se convertirá en la bandera de la prensa más chovinista, aquella que creía que si la España de 1808, sin ejército y sin gobierno, pudo vencer a la máquina de guerra francesa, la de 1898 podía hacer lo propio con el gigante norteamericano. En consecuencia, el mito de Bailén se actualizará en un contexto de crisis política española, representando los intereses más diversos.

    The mythification process that Bailén Battle developed during most of the nineteenth century seemed to have concluded nationwide by the end of the century. However, the War of Cuba and the United States involvement would revive the myth which would become the symbol of the most chauvinist press, the one believing that, if the 1808 Spain could defeat the french war machinery with no army nor goverment, the 1898 Spain would do the same with the american giant. Consequently, the myth Bailén will be updated representing the most diverse interests in a context of political crisis in Spain.
