Resumen de Recursos marins

Jordi Lleonart, Josep Lloret Romanach

  • The extractive activities involving renewable natural resources of the sea is dealtwith here in two main sections: capture fishery (both professional and recreational) andaquaculture. A diagnosis of the current situation is presented for both these fields, followed by a set of proposals for improving their sustainability. These two activitiesprovide social and economic benefits for the towns on the coast that engage in themand benefits for the health of consumers. However, capture fishery and aquaculture arealso associated with environmental problems since they have a considerable impact onthe ecosystems which are exploited, as well as risks for consumers due to specificpollutants and pathogens. This paper also takes a careful look at the marine fisheryreserves, which are one of the basic tools for the protection and conservation ofresources and of ecosystems and their biodiversity, and it goes on to consider thespecies of interest for fishing which are protected or endangered
