Cuando participar no es sólo ser parte. El alumnado de Educación Media de Paraguay frente a la participación democrática

    La presente investigación trata de explorar las representaciones sociales del alumnado de la Educación Media de Paraguay acerca de la participación democrática, tomando como base su formación cívica y política. El estudio tiene un enfoque cualitativo, se aborda desde la perspectiva interpretativa, busca comprender y describir la realidad social desde las perspectivas y experiencias de los participantes. La unidad de análisis compone las respuestas de 300 estudiantes (16-18 años) del tercer curso de la Educación Media. Para el tratamiento de los datos se utilizó el programa de análisis de texto Iramuteq. Los hallazgos indican que el alumnado concibe la participación como algo más que la acción en sí misma de participar. Entienden que participar significa ocupar espacios para el usufructo pleno de los derechos, la posibilidad de ejercitar y defender las libertades fundamentales, interesarse por la vida política y tener acceso a servicios y condiciones que les permitan mejorar la calidad de vida, satisfacer sus necesidades sociales y contribuir al afianzamiento de los procesos democráticos. Destacan la ausencia de canales efectivos de participación que garanticen el respeto y defensa de los derechos civiles y políticos.

    This research seeks to explore the social representations of Paraguayan high school students about democratic participation, based on their civic and political formation. The study has a qualitative approach, it is approached from an interpretative perspective, it seeks to understand and describe the social reality from the perspectives and experiences of the participants. The unit of analysis consists of the responses of 300 students (16-18 years old) in the third year of high. The text analysis program Iramuteq was used to process the data. The findings indicate that the students conceive participation as something more than the action itself of participating. They understand that participation means occupying spaces for the full enjoyment of rights, the possibility of exercising and defending fundamental freedoms, taking an interest in political life and having access to services and conditions that allow them to improve their quality of life, satisfy their social needs and contribute to the consolidation of democratic processes. They highlight the absence of effective channels of participation that guarantee the respect and protection of civil and political rights.
