    El artículo explora las formas de narrar lo religioso en los lenguajes po- líticos de Vicente Riva Palacio (1832-1896). El ejercicio concibe ficción e historia como un todo escritural y se fundamenta en una considera- ción reflexiva sobre “lo religioso”, lo que permite ampliar la lectura de lo meramente eclesiástico o institucional. En consecuencia, y contrario a una suerte de realismo ingenuo sobre el hecho institucional religioso, los argumentos que ofrece buscan abrir paso a la indagación de las for- mas narrativas de lo religioso movilizadas en expresiones historiográficas y socioantropológicas para comprender las creencias pasadas y presentes.

    Los resultados complejizan el relato histórico de lo religioso en Riva Palacio: su narrativa contiene importantes preguntas aún no resueltas sobre el lugar de la experiencia religiosa en los Estados nación y el mun- do moderno

    The article examines ways of narrating the religious in Vicente Riva Pala- cio’s political language (1832-1896). The exercise conceives fiction and history as a scriptural whole and is based on a reflective consideration of the “the religious”, which allows broadening the reading of the merely ecclesiastical or institutional. Consequently, and contrary to a kind of naive realism about the religious institutional fact, the arguments that it offers seek to open the way to the investigation of the narrative forms of the religious, mobilized in historiographic and socioanthropological expressions in order to understand past and present beliefs. The results make the historical account of religion in Riva Palacio more complex:

    its narrative contains important unresolved questions about the place of religious experience in nation states and the modern world.
