    En el presente artículo he analizado, en principio, y a modo de introducción, diversos aspectos generales de la historia de la Iglesia de España, como: la situación en que quedó la Iglesia con la implantación del régimen constitucional; la propaganda anticlerical desarrollada durante el Trienio; la importancia que tuvieron, durante ese período, las sociedades secretas de masones, comuneros y carbonarios, en la implantación y desarrollo del régimen constitucional; la legislación anticlerical publicada durante las primeras y segundas Cortes liberales; el impacto producido por las reformas eclesiásticas, y todo ello, como el germen de una primera guerra civil en España de carácter religiosa. A continuación, me he centrado: en la situación en que se encontraba la diócesis de Badajoz durante el Trienio Liberal, teniendo en cuenta las distintas jurisdicciones que comprendían dicha entidad; en la reseña biográfica y la actitud mantenida por el obispo don Mateo Delgado Moreno, ante el régimen liberal; las características del clero absolutista y liberal, con las correspondientes represiones eclesiásticas ejercidas durante el Trienio y en la Década Ominosa; para terminar con las conclusiones extraídas de dicho estudio y una abundante bibliografía y documentación inédita consultada en distintos archivos.

    In this article I have analyzed, in principle, and by way of introduction, various general aspects of the history of the Church in Spain, such as: the situation in which the Church was left with the implementation of the constitutional regime; the anticlerical propaganda developed during the Triennium; the importance that the secret societies of masons, commoners and carbonarios had, during that period, in the implantation and development of the constitutional regime; the anticlerical legislation published during the first and second liberal Cortes; the impact produced by the ecclesiastical reforms, and all this, as the germ of a first civil war in Spain of a religious nature. Next, I have focused: on the situation in which the Diocese of Badajoz found itself during the Liberal Triennium, taking into account the different jurisdictions that comprised said entity; in the biographical review and the attitude maintained by Bishop Don Mateo Delgado Moreno, before the liberal regime; the characteristics of the absolutist and liberal clergy, with the corresponding ecclesiastical repressions exercised during the Triennium and in the Ominous Decade; to finish with the conclusions drawn from said study and an abundant bibliography and unpublished documentation consulted in different archives.
