    La investigación se centra en la construcción del templo de San Pedro Apóstol en el sur del Lago de Maracaibo, como un hecho cultural, que responde a la afirmación de su papel como un ente integrador colectivo a finales del siglo XVIII, pues con ello se logró generar un “complejo encuentro cultural” entre esa comunidad agraria, en la cual participaron hispano-criollos, hacendados, trabajadores libres, esclavizados y también comerciantes, la mayoría de ellos afrodescendientes. El análisis identifica y revela los hilos conductores del proyecto, los orígenes formales del templo y la identificación de sus artífices.

    The research focuses on the construction of the temple of San Pedro Apóstol in the south of Lago de Maracaibo, as a cultural fact, which responds to the affirmation of its role as a collective integrating entity at the end of the eighteenth century, as it was achieved to generate a “complex cultural encounter” between that agrarian community, in which Hispano-Creoles, hacendados, free workers, enslaved and also merchants participated, most of them Afro-descendants. The analysis identifies and reveals the project’s underlying threads, the formal origins of the temple and the identification of its artificers.
