The anonymous treatise De Spiritu et Anima is a valuable document, as it seeks to address thesubject of the soul using all the Latin sources available at its time: Lactantius, Macrobius,Augustine, Boethius, Bede, Alcuin, Hugh of Saint Victor, Isaac of Stella, among other. Withoutpretending to resolve the question of its authorship, -a question that still remains open amongspecialists-, we intend to compare the meaning of “soul” in the anonymous treatise and in theDidascalicon of Hugh of Saint Victor, in order to determine if and to what extent the influenceof the Victorine is present in the conception of “soul” proposed by the compiler.
